I will never forget the crossroad situation I was in when I was newly saved. I was involved in something I knew was wrong but I had no ability to break the chain. I prayed to God for help and he gave me clear instructions. I made a decision to do what God has told me to do. I had to choose which place I wanted to be in. The comfort and tremendous pain and misery of sin or the unknown and not yet possessed freedom. Both decisions were frightening. I chose God. Right after I stepped into the action of obedience with a fully made decision and no turning back option, God provided. He made a miracle in my life. The chains were broken and I was free.
Many people in the Bible who walked with God experienced the choice and the miracle of obedience. It is not easy but I can reassure: God helps us! He does. Let’s look at the example of Abraham one more time. He did get a very hard test of obedience, none of us will ever get.
And Abraham called the name of the place, The-Lord-Will-Provide; as it is said to this day, “In the Mount of the Lord it shall be provided.” Genesis 22:14 NKJV
Mount of the Lord is the place of obedience. Not half obedience, not half-hearted decision with the option to return. No, this is a place of one hundred percent certainty who gets my attention. All else is out of sight. Not 50, 80 or 99 percent. One hundred.
I have heard many teachings about Abraham’s obedience but it became real to me when I was in his shoes in my own life circumstances. Choosing God will never be a disappointing experience. Never. It will always be a miraculous experience. The hardest part is the unknown. That’s where we stumble. All my life I avoided uncertainty and trusted self. When I received Christ as my Savior uncertainty was the very thing I had to embrace and trust God. The only certainty has become the knowledge that God is good and He provides when we give our lives to Him and follow Him in obedience when He calls. This transition was excruciating for me. But I managed by the grace of God. I survived with the help of God and you will too. There is nothing better than learning to trust God. Because He knows everything and I don’t and never will. It is obvious who I should be putting my trust in forever and ever.
